BAPS SWAMINARAYAN CULTURAL PRECINCT
Location Kemps Creek, NSW
DA Approval 2019 (under construction)
Builder Vertex Group
Jakaan Architects was selected to prepare the design and documentation of the largest Hindu precinct in the Southern Hemisphere. This prestigious project was commissioned by BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS), a large international Hindu community, and Jakaan Architects was chosen for our extensive experience in designing places of public worship, and our expertise in large-scale workforce accommodation projects.
The development centres around the Mandir (Hindu Temple), a sacred place of worship designed to accommodate the spiritual needs of the community. In addition to the Mandir, the precinct includes an expansive Assembly Hall for religious gatherings and events, a Dining Hall designed to support large-scale communal dining, and a Monks' Residence that offers a serene and functional living space for resident monks. The landscape design integrates green areas for meditation and reflection, with thoughtfully planned internal roads and extensive car parking to ensure smooth traffic flow and accessibility across the site. The project also includes comprehensive site works to support these facilities, ensuring a harmonious blend of functional infrastructure with the natural beauty of the surrounding environment.
This carefully planned precinct not only meets the spiritual and communal needs of the Hindu community but also reflects a deep respect for the site’s topography and environmental constraints. By incorporating expansive landscape areas and a well-organized infrastructure network, the design fosters a peaceful and welcoming atmosphere for worship, community interaction, and cultural events.
