Jakaan Architects was engaged to design and deliver alterations and additions to a 1920s Federation house, transforming it into a multi-generational family home for an Indian family while preserving the charm of the original architecture. The clients sought to retain the traditional features of the original living room and bedrooms, while introducing an uncompromising modernist box addition with sleek interiors. The project features high-end fixtures and finishes throughout, blending timeless elegance with contemporary luxury.
The design incorporates specialized spaces such as prayer and idol rooms, reflecting the cultural and spiritual needs of the family. The home also accommodates multi-generational living, providing comfortable, functional spaces for extended family members. A standout feature of the project is the fully functional butler’s kitchen and pantry, equipped with duplicate appliances for efficient meal preparation, catering to the needs of a large family.
Jakaan Architects managed the entire project from concept design to construction delivery, overseeing both the architecture and interior design. This seamless approach ensured the integration of the old and new elements, creating a harmonious balance between the home's Federation heritage and its bold, modern extension.
This project demonstrates Jakaan Architects' ability to deliver bespoke solutions that respect the original character of historic homes while incorporating modern design and functionality for contemporary family living.
