PARKLAWN BOARDING HOUSE
Location North St Mary's, NSW
DA Approval Received 2019
Jakaan Architects was commissioned to design and secure the Development Application (DA) for a 4-storey boarding house in St Marys, comprising 34 fully self-contained studio apartments, each equipped with a kitchenette and ensuite, alongside a manager’s room, large communal facilities, and retail café spaces. This project is designed to cater to fly-in fly-out trade workers involved in infrastructure works for the new Western Sydney Airport.
Situated on a 455 sqm site, this project presented a technical challenge to achieve the required room yield while adhering to strict local planning regulations. The compact site demanded creative solutions to maximise space and functionality, ensuring that the boarding house meets both the residents' needs and the regulatory requirements for high-density residential development.
This project highlights Jakaan Architects' expertise in delivering space-efficient, high-yield developments for specialised user groups, while navigating the complexities of local planning frameworks in prime urban locations.
