THE PHYSIO DEPOT

Picture
Location Springwood, NSW
Built by a local Blue Mountains based builder
Overview
An adaptive reuse project that transforms a weatherboard cottage into a fully accessible physiotherapy clinic for The Physio Depot.

The design reconfigures circulation through a series of subtle interventions: internal doorways were widened, an internal ramp was constructed, and an existing toilet was modified to meet accessibility requirements in line with AS1428.1-2009 and the National Construction Code.

Externally, we reconfigured carpark access and added an accessible parking space with a custom-designed steel deck to facilitate safe movement around vehicles. A new external ramp from the rear carpark provides barrier-free access to the clinic, with every element shaped around a significant existing gum tree that anchors the backyard.

The existing raised deck and stairs were re-established, and three rainwater tanks were installed beneath the deck. The carpark was constructed using a permeable gravel surface over stabilising mesh to support on-site stormwater management.
