These clients were referred to Jakaan Architects by a previous satisfied client, seeking our expertise to design their dream home on a challenging battle-axe site in the Blue Mountains. The site, which had an existing two-level house that was demolished, presented unique challenges with a multi-level terrain featuring a 3-4 meter drop. This led to the creation of a split-level design—appearing as a single-storey house from the street but revealing a second storey at the lower part of the site, in response to the land’s natural slope.
The professional couple, relocating from their apartment in Parramatta, wanted a home that took full advantage of the mountain setting while addressing the complexities of the site. The split-level design maximized the use of the existing footprint and the challenging topography, immersing them amongst the treetops and creating a peaceful, nature-connected living experience.
This project highlights Jakaan Architects' ability to transform complex sites into beautiful, highly functional homes, aligning the clients' vision with the site's inherent constraints and opportunities.
